nice price deal !!! expanding on the success of forward strategy group, label boss smear has fashioned the new minimalist outfit, retail & leisure, with a new addition of the fsg corporate family. retail & leisure is in many ways the polar opposite of fsg, ditching their trademark dense, heavy techno in favour of simplicity, space and a more systematic approach to composition. side a strips right down to the bare essentials, leaving little more than an ice-cold rhythm, bleep and hiss, creating a deep mix-tool for fans of artists such as mika vainio and sleeparchive. the b side features a remix by fsgs latest recruit adrian ross. mechanical scrapes and clangs mesh with deep, pressing kicks to create a sound which is dense and impenetrable. ross is a unique entity in techno: with a genuine outsiders take on the genre, he is an exciting prospect and a great asset to the group. the final track is r&ls take on dubstep, with dry, chalky percussion, discordant siren and churning bass. snares spin, shuffle and shatter against the tracks main, oppressive rhythms. the record ends with some valuable advice on where one should position ones feet

back in 1998 this was probably just about the wrongest record you had ever heard
and it has to be said that not much has changed. forshaw has a knack of turning out ridiculously hard and mangled electro and techno tracks but still managing to make them sound >poppy<. sometimes, as in the case of rockford for example, it is because he uses well recognisable (but unexpected) samples. but more often it is just because he manages to make tunes (no matter how hard) that make you stop gurning and start smiling.

this man cant currently be stopped. following his releases through the 2nd season 2009 (>marvin on compost, >smaul 06< & >smaul 07<) in january 2010 acid paulis >riverboat tour< came out. now, it seems he opens this years summer season with these two psychedelic thrilling tracks. even though he had been touring a lot with the notwist last year, acid pauli was pretty often an invited, musically refreshing guest in berlins minimal techno (what ever) scene. den mahlstrom rauf leaves no doubts about. great build up he does by keeping tension over five minutes to unlash finally the madness charge with a levitating reverse-ducking-compressed melody. den mahlstrom runter (a play on words of travelling on a boat and getting milled
) seems to be the return from the trip he gives on side a. it is the same track reworked. his musical drama goes faster but deeper under the cortex but >how lucky a fate< deliverance comes at right time taking the track over to a known housy and deep realm.

the spaniard manuel fernandez llorente had a classical musical upbringing, studying at the music conservatorium in madrid. he has been composing and producing electronic music since 1996, not only releasing on his own label >7noise< but more importantly also being licensed for various major compilations. now he is releasing his first tracks on highgrade records. at first, >addiction< unspectacularly plods on towards house heaven, but then the sparse vocals and timeless organ sounds give you a warm and soft electro shock. the first track on the b side >the gull< shows off prompts talents as a composer. a very discreet melody blankets the straight beat, taking away the coldness of the bass. a beautiful dream track that should never really end. >mechanic< brings it home and is right in your face, a journey into minimal techno country, where you meet the sound ghosts that prompt has summoned. a single drum beat here, a voice there and a now and again a sound shred that are all meticulously arranged to make the perfect atmosphere.
